| Abus Rekeyable Padlock
If your aim is to have a padlock that can be keyed to your door
locks, the Abus rekeyable brass body padlock is one to consider. It comes in the Schlage C
keyway shown here, as well as many other keyways standard to door locks. It's a good quality
brass body lock, there is also a steel body available, but the brass ones are the ones I see
most often. When I first started locksmithing, the rekeyable padlock was a real pain in the
rump to deal with, but the ease of dealing with this lock does a lot to make up for that.

After opening the shackle, the phillips screw holding the cylinder in place is revealed.
Unscrew this and the cylinder drops right out. Be careful not to drop things right from the start. Since the cylinder is
0 bitted (set to a blank key) it is likely to fall out with the cylinder turned.

Depress the spring loaded pin at the back of the plug, and turn the plug 90 degrees
counter clockwise (viewed from the front), and the pinning window will line up with the tumblers.

Just dump out the pins, and insert the new ones. Since we are using Schlage
we can just go by the numbers, nothing could be easier. No follower to handle or clips to remove and reinstall.
These are being master keyed to the customers preference, and that is no problem, the cylinders are accurately
made solid brass, and they key up very well. I love that pinning window! Speeds things up real nice, and fewer parts to handle.

Since this customer does not desire the key retaining feature, the 'Z' clip gets removed from
the back of the plug. The cylinder is screwed back into the body, and it is done.
